Chocolate Chip Cookies (Family Recipe!!)

Happy Saturday Everyone! I hope you are all having a great weekend and are cheering on your favorite team in the final four in this year’s March Madness! I have never participated in March Madness until this year at work and if you have never done it before, you need to do it next year! I follow football way more than I do basketball, but I am having the time of my life (especially since I’m 2nd highest for possible points). How awesome would it be to be a March Madness bracket winner your first year?? I am proclaiming this with all my faith – Go Zags!!

For those of who who don’t care about basketball or sports in general, I will move on… To better tasting things.

Let’s talk about cookies. Who doesn’t love cookies?! There are hundreds of versions of cookies to suit whatever your likes or dislikes are. I mean… SERIOUSLY, I don’t know if we can be friends if you literally do not like one of the hundreds of cookies. You could be a huge nutrition person and swear you have trained your body to not desire sugar; however, I know while no one is looking you are binging on some cookies.

We all like cookies, agreed?

Now lets kick it up a notch and talk about homemade, family-recipe cookies – these are the best! Everyone claims their mom has the best recipe but I am 100% convinced my mom actually has THE actual best recipe for delicious chocolate chip cookies. They are the dessert version of my guacamole. If you do not get that, you need to go check out my guacamole recipe. I can’t go to parties without it – and just like my guacamole, my mom cannot go to parties without her cookies being requested.

I’m about to let you in on a huge secret…This recipe really does not compare with any other cookie I have had.

Instructions
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter. If your butter is melted, you will need to add more flour later as it makes the batter too runny.
  3. Mix well so there is a smooth consistency.
  4. Add vanilla extract, baking soda, baking powder, salt, flour, eggs, and oats to the bowl and mix well.
  5. Add chocolate chips and fold into dough.
  6. Roll cookie dough into 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on a non-stick sheet (or coated with cooking spray). You should be able to fit 12 cookie dough balls on each pan.
  7. Place one sheet on each rack and set timer for 8 minutes. Once the 8 minutes are up, switch sheets and check set timer for 6 minutes. I usually let it go for 8 but like to keep an eye on them. The cookies should be lightly browned around the edges when they are done. Keep in mind, when you take them out of the oven and sit on the sheet for a minute to set, they will cook a bit more. It's better to have them slightly under-baked than over.
  8. Once baked, place cookies on cooling racks and enjoy a warm, delicious, melt-in-your-mouth cookie!
